The Society of Ohio Safety Engineers (SOSE) is a long standing organization composed of trained, experienced safety and health professionals with business, industry and educational backgrounds. Established in 1916 in Columbus, Ohio, the SOSE is the second oldest organization of its kind in the United States.

The Society meets three times each year, with meetings normally scheduled in the fall, winter and spring.  Members meet to discuss and share current information regarding safety engineering practices, industrial hygiene, regulatory compliance, worker’s compensation, environmental and health issues.  The spring meeting is held in conjunction with the annual Ohio Division of Safety & Hygiene’s Safety Congress and Exposition.

The organization’s elected officers, executive committee, and technical committee members provide direction and leadership for the Society.

Each member is asked to serve on at least one of one of the twelve technical committees.  Members are encouraged to research and communicate EH&S issues at the general meetings and throughout the year.  This collaboration of EH&S professionals provides a specialized information network of readily available expertise and support.

Membership is by invitation only, and may be granted by vote in one of four categories: Active, Associate, Life or Honorary member. Members will consider the candidate’s experience and education to determine the appropriate category. All SOSE members are asked to assume the responsibility of participating in and maintaining the proud traditions of the society.

Membership is not open to individuals working in safety product sales, or in any state or federal regulatory capacity.
